Contrary to common belief, GHB is actually highly addictive. The majority of GHB addicts are bodybuilders or athletes. GHB addiction is closely connected to steroid use. GHB abuse is becoming the most common cause of drug induced comas in the United States.

GHB Withdrawal Symptoms

Withdrawal from GHB lasts 10-14 days and can be extremely severe. It almost always requires medical supervision and should never be attempted alone or done “cold turkey”. Symptoms of withdrawal from GHB include insomnia, tremors, anxiety, confusion, nausea, agitation, hallucinations, violent behavior, and disorientation.

GHB, or gamma hydroxybutyrate, is a sedative with long lasting effects on users. It is a central nervous system depressant. Effects of GHB use include a calming feeling, relief of anxiety, and relaxation. Originally it was developed in Europe for use in treating narcolepsy and as an intravenous anesthetic. It has a reputation as a club drug now though and recent fame has come from its use as a date rape drug. It has been marketed to bodybuilders as a supplement that assists with building muscle mass. GHB is a chemical substance that is essentially a mix of drain cleaner and floor stripping chemicals.
