Halfway Independent Recovery Living Woodstock Illinois McHenry County

SUMMARY of Intervention and Recovery Living:

It has become clear in the last few years that many people are being put into treatment before they are ready to be put there which causes folks to relapse many times. Why does this happen? Because some facilities have high overhead costs and need to meet these expectations. Spirit Center has none of these and we carefully assess each case and make informed decisions on how to address each person individually depending on your particular set of unique circumstances.

Spirit Center’s Core competency: Causes and conditions – changing the paradigms of present-day indifference.

The Intervention implements the ‘power of recovery’

An Evidence-Based, Best-Practice method of Intervention that harnesses the ‘power of recovery’ to achieve its mission for individual and family long-term recovery.

A support system is mobilized to form a genuine Network to motivate commitment.

The Intervention does not begin until:

* “First Call”, starts when a Concerned Other calls our Certified Interventionist for a free phone consultation, and is coached to mobilize the support network.

* “Strength in Purpose” The Intervention Network; no one deals one-on-one with the individual. By the end of two to five Intervention Network meetings, 80% of individuals have entered the initial recovery phase.

Continuing care continues until both individual and family are Living in Recovery. This includes ensuring that work, life style, social circle, family relationships and personal decisions made for personal growth are happening for the individual and family.

Spirit Center’s specialists draw upon 35+ years of research and experience aimed at facilitating long-term stability.

Independent Recovery Living Phase:

Group recovery homes should efficiently and safely establish a healthy baseline for individual restoration. Initializing residency:

• Screening via ‘Personal Recovery Input’.

• Assessment establishes a baseline.

• Continuity of supportive and progressive daily/weekly participation.

• Active action in working recovery within a healthy and personal network.

Founding House Mentors

With over 40 years combined experience of the recovery process, the founders are passionate about giving back to others. ‘We serve those who truly seek release in their lives’.

Dave and Serena began their service work by opening for SPIRIT Center recovery group’s 501c3 in 2012. Nothing has graced their lives more than witnessing healthy healing of the lives in those who are in earnest.

Dave’s history in the principles of the steps started with his recovery in 1981. His childhood was that of addiction. Dave had been through many court affiliated facilities in Illinois and Wisconsin, for a period of 8 years. Family example had provided efforts in Dave’s mother, Marguerite. Over Dave’s childhood struggling years, her purpose grew into providing for a well known recovery home in Downers Grove. His first meeting at 18 years of age, surrounded by dozens of recovering alcoholics from the Elmhurst area, gave to him a message of hope. The message was this ‘My Life Can Change Today!’ and from that day, it did with the help of established mentors.

Serena’s history is quite the opposite. Her first meeting was at the age of 21 in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Her life changed at 40 years old. 19 years covered three vocations in real estate, insurance, and construction. Occupations coinciding with one marriage turned to divorce and two more relationships that fed alcoholism to drug addiction: from bad to worse. She had multiple treatments and counseling experiences over those years. No need to type out the details of an addict’s story, it’s common ground mentality of discord, human indifference, and enabling relations, ad infinitum. Results of life’s disciplines, grace, and mercy have placed purpose in duty of community recovery.

When we are not clear on our liabilities then we are not clear.

Dave and Serena’s journey prior to their marriage held the benefits of unity, service, and recovery which produced full service in the steps of discovery. Their uniting in marriage has established a solid team example to SPIRIT Center group recovery. Togehter, their six accomplished adult children and three grand daughters also fulfill their hearts with the most joy of all, embracing healthy love.
